FRANZ FERDINAND
Elephant & Castle Coronet, 7th May

"Six bottles of beer at £3.50 each is £21, you stupid motherfucker!"

That's what I want to say. Instead we wait in bewildered silence as the intellectual struggle rages on. We've been queueing for forty minutes to get a beer and the guy who finally serves us can't do simple multiplication. It's another small thing in a long list that has damned this night

It's my first vist to the Coronet and on first impressions it looks like it could be a pretty good venue. That is before you realise that the layout is fucked. Half of tonight's sell-out crowd have little or no view and those of us stuck at the back by the bar give up after a few minutes. Franz Ferdinand SOUND ok, and the brief fleeting glimpses we do get, they sure look OK too, although they look a little nervous and there is very little between song banter. But the venue and the staff, and the fact that i've had to come to Elephant & Castle for the first time in my six years in London, have truly blighted the evening.

I'd love to have seen them at the Astoria, but after tonight and the blanket coverage they seem to have enjoyed over the last six months, I'm beginning to think that they may (for me at least) already be yesterday's news.
